The Moon Room
Stand on a full-size lunar surface floor, compare your footprint with an Apollo boot, and see why the photo called Earthrise changed how people saw home.
1°17′ S Science centre & planetarium · Nairobi
Sit back under a 16-metre dome, hold a meteorite older than Earth's oceans, and look through the rooftop telescope on Friday nights. Shows in English and Kiswahili, six days a week.
01 Planet explorer
Tap a planet to open its file: size, distance, how long its days and years last, and what the bathroom scale would say if you stood there.
Planet sizes to a gentle scale. Distances not to scale. The Sun would be about ten Jupiters wide.
Width compared with Jupiter
Figures are averages from NASA planetary fact sheets. Moon counts keep rising as telescopes improve.Live version of this explorer runs in the dome every Saturday at 15:00.
Nairobi sits just south of the equator, so over a year you can see at least part of all 88 constellations from here.Very few cities on Earth can say that. Anga is Kiswahili for sky, and we built the dome to make the most of ours: the Southern Cross in autumn, Orion overhead in January, the Milky Way's bright core on dry winter nights.
02 Shows & times
Every show is presented live by one of our astronomers, so questions are welcome. Choose a day, then book a seat.
03 Exhibitions
Galleries are open all day and included with every dome ticket. Most visitors spend about two hours with us.

Stand on a full-size lunar surface floor, compare your footprint with an Apollo boot, and see why the photo called Earthrise changed how people saw home.

Touch iron that fell from space, and see the crystal pattern that only forms over millions of years inside an asteroid.

Nebulae, galaxies and dying stars, printed large and explained simply.

Safe solar viewing at noon on clear days. Saturn, Jupiter and the Moon on Friday nights.

Plan a rover landing, steer a docking, and find out what astronauts eat, sleep in and wear.

Yes. Moon Hop at 10:00 on weekends is made for under-7s: 20 minutes, gentle sound, and the lights never go fully dark. Under-3s are free on a grown-up's lap.
We move inside and give a live tour of that night's sky in the dome instead. Your ticket still covers it.
There is a picnic terrace and a small café. Food and drinks stay out of the dome and galleries.
Yes, if seats are left. Weekend and holiday shows often fill up, so booking ahead is safer.
